The Navigator
project, to design and build world class vessels, with the primary
objective of providing something considerably different in the way of
adventure and exploration, grew from my years of sea-time service and
the wealth of knowledge gained from it.
I designed these ships for people who want to experience the real world,
to witness how different cultures go about their daily chores without
that strange feeling that they “just arrived at another tourist trap”.
Having the ability to participate in events that will enrich their
worldly knowledge as opposed to learning about our world from a
Television set, to experience a healthy lifestyle seldom available in
the modern “big city” world that most of us live in.
My ancestors, participated in the Era of the Great Discoveries, which so
thoroughly altered the map of the world. They were not as fortunate to
sail in ships so well equipped and safe as the Navigator Class Ship.
Given today’s lifestyles, one does not have the luxury of time.
Therefore speed and comfort is one of the main features that I have
incorporated into the design of these elegant ships.
These ships will give the participant an ability to reflect on what
happened five hundred years ago. Without seeking to unearth clever
analogies, I want the participants to understand that we live in a
complicated world forged in the wake of the Great Navigators. It makes
sense to revisit that world, better said, what remains of a past world
that functioned at a slower pace from ours, seeing it through the eyes
of people that live within cultures different from one another. We stand
to benefit from reflecting on those who shaped our world.
Sincerely,
Captain E. G. da Costa Duarte
