COGES

 

COGES is an acronym for a combined gas turbine and steam turbine, electric and steam production plant for cruise ship propulsion using an integrated electric drive system configuration.

 

 

 

Gas turbines designed for aircraft propulsion are by their very nature lightweight, compact, efficient, and very reliable. They are used extensively on military ships where the mission of the transport must not be compromised by a need to carry large propulsion equipment requiring significant spares and crew. Modern Cruise ships have traditionally been powered by large diesel engines. These engines provide power to propellers either through gears or through integrated electric systems. The COGES plant replaces the diesel engine with gas turbine engines and provides the following advantages:
